The iMac Pro is a desktop computer for professionals widely used by designers and professional engineers. In 2020, this professional iMac received a major update and has since been equipped with a 10-core processor as standard. This was the major update after a long gap from Apple. The 2020 model was still sold “while supplies last” and there was no successor. However, Apple seems to stop selling the 2021 models (temporarily) with the new iMac Pro. There are rumors that Apple would release a refreshed iMac Pro in the first half of 2022 that shares many features with the recently released new MacBook Pro.

What’s New In iMac Pro 2022?

It is expected that the successor to the 27-inch iMac with Apple Silicon will be released in 2022. It will be so powerful that it will in fact be a successor to the iMac Pro. Apple would like to wait until 2022 to give each new product enough attention and this might be the reason the delay in product releases. It is also rumored that this ‘iMac Pro’ would have a larger 30-inch screen and be equipped with an M1X or M2X chip.

The new 27-inch iMac will be sharing many aspects with the new MacBook Pro. The new iMac would offer a choice of the same chips: Apple M1 Pro and M1 Max, the chips that are also in the MacBook Pro. The base model would have 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The new 27-inch iMac would also have a 120Hz mini LED screen, just like the new MacBook Pros. On it, the contrast is higher and images move more smoothly than on the regular 60Hz LCD screen in the recently renewed 24-inch iMac.

Face ID

The look of the new 27-inch iMac would have a design that matches that of the 24-inch iMac and the Pro Display XDR. The new iMac 2022 could also be the first Mac with Face ID facial scanning. MacBook Pro does have a screen notch, but it doesn’t have facial recognition. Broadly speaking, the new 27-inch iMac would be compared with the MacBook Pro as the 24-inch iMac is to the MacBook Air. The last Mac to be updated after the 27-inch iMac is the Mac Pro, the most expensive and most powerful model.

What’s expected in iMac Pro 2022?

The new iMac Pro is also the same as the new MacBook Pro in terms of ports: multiple USB-C ports, an SD card reader and HDMI. And in terms of design, the new iMac looks like the 24-inch model with M1 chip, but with dark screen edges. Here are the pros of this new desktop computer:

  1. Most powerful Mac ever.
  2. Suitable for heavy graphics applications such as VR and 3D rendering.
  3. Improved 1080p FaceTime HD camera with M1 image signal processor.
  4. Internally improved on all points.
  5. Wider 27inch 5K Retina display (5120‑by‑2880 resolution).
  6. Liquid Retina XDR: 2K/3K Retina display, 1,600 nits peak brightness.
  7. 6K Retina display (6016-by-3384 resolution).

What is the Expected Price of iMac 2022?

The estimated price of Apple iMac Pro 2022 will be above $2,000 USD. Experts are expecting this increase in price due to facial recognition feature that will be a great add-on in the iMac series.
